Bridal preparation is one of my favourite parts of the day to photograph. It’s really special to have all your closest friends together to support you on your wedding day. I love the excitement and making sure my brides have beautiful photos they will treasure forever. It’s a great time to take natural photos of everyone having fun as well as more posed shots.
LIGHT!, PLENTY OF LIGHT
photographs will often look better with natural light than with flash or room lights, so the more windows the better!
SET UP BY A WINDOW
Light, light, light! One of the most important elements for amazing images is natural light. The best way to get natural light is by placing yourself near a light source. Ask your hair and makeup team to set up by a window and your pictures will be all the better for it. Choosing a dark corner to do your makeup won’t be ideal for the make up artist or your photographer. If you choose to get ready in your wedding venues bridal suite there should be a nice bright space for this. However if you choose to get ready at home think before hand which room has the most natural light as well as plenty of space.
HANG YOUR DRESS
Try to hang your dress somewhere nice before you are ready to put it on. That way your photographer can get shots of the bridal preparations with the dress in the background. This really helps to tell the story and gives context to the photos. Your photographer can also get detail shots of your dress hung up. These look great in your wedding album.
ASK ME TO COME NICE AND EARLY
Many brides worry about being photographed with no make-up on and ask their photographer to only capture half an hour of the preparations. This isn’t long enough to get really beautiful pictures. Particularly if you want detail shots of your dress, shoes, rings and flowers. When photographing weddings we always like to arrive nice and early.
KEEP THE ROOM TIDY
While keeping the place tidy may be the furthest thing from your mind, doing so will ensure that you get the very best from your wedding photos. Wedding photographers love clean backgrounds for their shots so they can focus on you!
HAVE FUN!
By far the most important thing on your wedding day is to have fun! Get some bubbly flowing, enjoy getting pampered and look forward to the most special day of your life! Natural pictures are by far the best. Just relax and let the morning flow naturally. My style of photography is unobtrusive I won’t order you around and make you do anything you don’t want to. Your wedding day is all about you are we are there to capture moments. We encourage all our couples to relax and spend their day having an amazing time with their family and friends.
